Cactus Communications (CACTUS), a science communication and technology company, has announced an update in the requirements for its Editage Grant Program. To support more young Japanese researchers, they have raised the program’s target age from the current 35 to 40 years and have extended the application deadline from Tuesday, January 31st, 2023 to Tuesday, February 28th, 2023.

CACTUS officially announced the Editage Grant Program on November 2nd,  2022.  The recent modifications are in line with opinions about the program from people involved in academia in Japan. The Editage Grant programme is intended to give back to the Japanese researcher community, supporting the careers of young researchers and providing them with a platform to promote their research. It will also provide various tools, including the Editage platform, to help them succeed.

The updated criteria for Editage Grant are-

  • Age: The applicant must be between 22 and 40 years of age (both inclusive) as of November 1, 2022
  • Experience: The applicant must hold a master’s degree or equivalent in advanced studies
  • Research activities: The research activities described in the application and essay must have been conducted and managed within the last three years
  • Deadline: Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, February 28, 2023
  • Other: Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously submitted a paper, have not received funding, and do not have any plan to receive funding during the 365-day period ending April 26, 2023

Twenty finalists will be selected from the applicants, and the top five will receive a grant of 1 million JPY. In addition, 15 runners-up will receive a total of 100,000 JPY worth of Editage service coupons. Recipients will be announced late April of this year.
