Cactus Communications (CACTUS), a technology company accelerating scientific advancement, has joined the prestigious UN SDG Publishers Compact. With this, CACTUS has joined the list of 22 other signatory companies and publishers in the Asia Pacific region. Some of the largest academic publishers like Elsevier, Taylor and Francis, Emerald, and Springer Nature are also a part of this Compact. CACTUS has demonstrated its commitment to the values of sustainable development in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations by being a part of this initiative.
“A lot of the solutions for the problems facing the world today can be found in research. By participating in the UN SDG Publishers Compact, we hope to use our proprietary technology to help reorganize and classify by SDG a lot more of the published research from across publishers. It is a key goal for institutions and for publishers to be able to quantify how much of their published research relates to one or more of the SDGs. We also hope to be able take forward some of this research into creating summaries, videos and infographics that will help better inform media, policy-makers, educators and the public at large on solutions,” said Abhishek Goel, Co-founder and CEO of CACTUS.
From a list of 17 goals, CACTUS has selected to focus primarily on three goals: ‘Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages’, ‘build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation’, and ‘strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development’. All these goals strongly resemble CACTUS’s mission and vision of diversity, inclusivity, sustainability, and overall wellbeing.
The United Nations aims to achieve its Sustainable Development Goals by the year 2030 to improve the state of education, poverty, health, gender equality, etc. As a part of this initiative, it has listed out 10 action points for the publishers, associations, and others who are part of the Compact. These action points guide the signatories to commit themselves to the effort of achieving sustainable development goals through the publication of books and sharing of knowledge that inspires constructive change. The signatories are expected to act as champions of the SDGs during the Decade of Action starting from 2020 till 2030.
CACTUS has always been committed to the idea of accelerating scientific progress and growth, and the company continues to work towards the goal of making scientific knowledge accessible to all. The company is committed to promoting all the sustainable development goals of the United Nations.
